Risk Factors
Explore the key factors of heart problems and their significance in mitigating the potential dangers to one’s cardiovascular health.
Risk Factors
Although “heart disease” and “cardiovascular disease” are occasionally used interchangeably in medical contexts, they are not the same. Conditions that affect the structure and function of the heart are often referred to as heart disease. All cardiovascular disorders are heart diseases. However, not all heart disorders are cardiovascular illnesses. A stroke is a perfect example, which affects brain blood vessels but not the heart itself.
Risk factors for heart attack are influenced by certain habits, behaviours, events, or circumstances, such as inactivity, poor eating habits, smoking, diabetes, old age, and family history. Broadly, they can be categorized on the basis of changeability – Modifiable & Non-modifiable.
Modified Risk Factors
HIGH BLOOD CHOLESTEROL – It is recognized as one of the first three risk factors leading to heart disease. A fat particle with a complex structure, if present in more than adequate quantity in the blood, gets deposited to create blockages. A diet rich in cholesterol source is a major threat to heart health.
HIGH BLOOD TRIGLYCERIDES – Increased level of Triglycerides or fat in food is another factor for heart disease. A level of 160 mg/100ml is associated with increased heart disease risk.
HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE – High blood pressure is a potentially fatal disorder also known as “Silent Killer”.
Your arteries are generally elastic, allowing them to deal with the ups and downs of your blood pressure. However, when you have high blood pressure, your arteries lose their stretchiness and become stiff or tight, thus, adding heart attack risk factors.
This constriction facilitates the accumulation of fatty substances (cholesterol). This constriction and damage to the arteries that line your heart or brain could result in a potentially fatal heart attack.
OBESITY – Lack of physical exercise & wrong food habits will make a person obese and make them prone to heart disease.
STRESS AND MENTAL TENSION – Psychological stress is recognized as the most important risk factor for heart disease. In the absence of other risk factors, people can still have angina, if stress is not controlled, it leads to contraction of coronary arteries.
INTAKE OF ALCOHOL – Alcohol, owing to its structural similarity with glycerol, is associated with major risks. It is a source of empty calories and leads to diseases of the liver, gastritis etc.
LOW HDL CHOLESTEROL – HDL also called ‘good cholesterol’ can be another factor for CHD as it binds cholesterol and removes it from blockages.
SMOKING OR TOBACOO CONSUMPTION – Studies have proven that smoking substantially increases the risk of a heart attack. Consuming tobacco in any form is equally hazardous, as both are bad for health.
DIABETES MELLITUS – Uncontrolled blood sugar levels are associated with obesity, high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels responsible for CHD.
Non-Modified Risk Factors
AGE – Risk factors for heart failure increases with age.
SEX – Men are more likely than women to have Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) and Coronary Heart Disease (CHD). In contrast, women are more likely to experience a stroke, which frequently happens later in life.
HEREDITY – People from racial and ethnic minority groups face higher risks factors for heart disease.

I am very grateful to Dr. Chhajer for his guidance and for providing heart patients with an alternate that is cost effective also.
I had a minor heart attack in 1989 and doctors told me that getting bypass surgery is my only option but I refused. I met Dr. Bimal Chhajer at a medical residential camp in Faridabad and at that time I was unable to do day-to-day work due to excessive pain in my body and I was taking atleast 6-7 Sorbitrate tablets per day. I immediately started the EECP treatment and Detox Therapy along with diet and lifestyle changes including yoga, and meditation, and followed a zero oil diet plan for 40 days. For 2 years I kept on following these lifestyle changes and now after 25 years I am completely fine and I am also able to do normal day-to-day activities very easily. All this was made possible SAAOL without any kind of bypass surgery or angioplasty.
Year ago my husband was suffering from angina and discomfort in walking and doing sedentary activities. We heard about SAAOL through YouTube. We consulted Dr.Chhajer and were told that my husband’s Heart health could get better without surgery and with a few lifestyle changes. Post completion of the treatment his test reports only showed 50% blockage. He takes his regular medication and follows the SAAOL recommended Lifestyle like Zero Oil Cooking, Yoga, etc. His health is constantly improving. We are very grateful to SAAOL and Dr.Chhajer for his noble service for the society.
About 6-7 months ago I suffered from minor angina due to which doctors told me to go for a stent. After 3 months, I had a Heart stroke which got me really worried about my health.
